An eighth generation WHITEFORD and seventh generation McFADDEN in Harford County, Doug grew up in the Jarrettsville area in the 1950s and 1960s. He worked at the Jarrettsville General Store for the Berge family, the Jarrettsville Pharmacy for Doc Arnold (at the original location), and the Sinclair Gas Station that replaced the general store (now Carroll Fuel).

Doug is a 1965 North Harford graduate, followed by his wife in 1966, daughter in 1985, and son in 1989.

Doug has been married to his wife, Mary, for 57 years. In addition to their son and daughter, they have four grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great-granddaughters. Doug retired as a Technical Consultant after a 34-year career in the telecommunications industry at Western Electric, AT&T Corp., and Lucent Technologies.

Doug’s business does the Historical Society of Harford County’s photo work, and the desktop publishing of their newsletter and Harford Historical Bulletin. He also has done the oral histories of Harford Living Treasurers for the Harford County Public Library since 2002 and wrote the history article for Chad Shrodes' Northern Zone newsletter from its launch in 2015 to its end.

As was true for his previous works on Pylesville and the villages of the Jarrettsville Election Precinct, Doug did the desktop publishing for Hawk's Nest.
